[0963] Ainda as imagens do post 961

Descobrimos entretanto no mesmo local alguns dados, nos quais da primeira vez não tínhamos reparado. É que nisto de investigação é sempre bom voltar ao "lugar do crime"... Aqui ficam eles, para os nossos visitantes e em inglês, como no original. No caso da primeira imagem, chamamos a atenção para a designação "Bell Rock" , que não conhecíamos, alusiva ao ilhéu dos Pássaros (assim baptizado pelos ingleses, devido à sua forma de sino mas entre os marinheiros portugueses mais conhecido por nome assaz menos fino...). E também para a pequena biografia de Charles Lyall, que passou por São Vicente e outros locais no regresso da Austrália.

Series/Collection: Watercolours and drawings by Charles Lyall.
Biographical/Historical note: English born Charles Lyall came to Victoria in 1854 and left in 1856, spending time on the Bendigo goldfields and stopping over at St. Vincent in the Windward Islands in the West Indies before returning to England. In England he was known as an actor and singer, appearing with the Carl Rosa Opera Company. He died around about 1910.

  1. Sem dúvida que muito interessante, Djack. Essa do Bell Rock não pegou como designação mas não deixa de ser curioso o nome.

  2. Só não entendo a repetitiva alusão a WEST INDIES, que são ilhas das Caraíbas onde, na realidade, existe uma St.Vincent onde, por vezes, íam parar cartas destinadas a S.Vicente (de C.Verde)...Talvez se imponha uma rectificação!

  3. Também notei essa. Mas parece-me que a ordem de passagem pelos locais é que está errada. Ou seja, quem escreveu, não a sabia bem.
